Tech Project Xpo

On 25/Feb/2011,the masters student from CS department (MSc and MCA) held tech project exhibition build on system software, computer architecture and Dbms. Each team consisted of two members with project on former two basis by MCA students and latter two by MSc students.

Sharp 8:15am the exhibition was layed out in campus by the teams. It was inaugurated by a senior faculty of our college.

The projects which I found interesting and learning were many.To list and explain a few;I would begin with the project on Vehicle Theft Management System by Sunondo Dass. The project was well articulated across with neatly sketched diagrams of the system with a  live Demo of the project.

For his project's implementation he design the car comprising unique indentity number to be stored in Toll Both Server as well, with RF receiver and microcontroller. On the theft of the car Toll Both servers, would utilise RF Transmitter to send signals and locate the car with its registered identity number-assigned during manufacturing.

He used microcontroller to control the speed of the car in an area say, near to schools; where an RF transmitter would be placed and any cars entering that arena would be receving those signals and based on the code embedded in microcontroller; signals were send to the connected speed braker of the car to slower it down to the required speed. And once on crossing that arena when the RF receiver is intimated , the microcontroller of the car would set car back to normal speed.

Voice Control System as implemented by  Sheriff was converting analog signals(input) into digital. On being transmitted to microcontroller-it was programmed to give corresponding output to the required LED by using Relays between them.He used 8 LED's for his project for eight tasks which the system would do based on 8 different voice input with relay switching on/off the requested device. For user interface he used C sharp.

Several Robots, system softwares(compilers, loaders, linkers etc) and databases were designed;live demo's of project were perfectly iced by their clear explanation.I just explained two in my blog to paint a slight picture of exhibition. It happend to be a great learning experience.

National Conference On "Emerging Trends In IT"

The conference was inaugrated by Rajendra Prasad (Head Of Software Qualtiy & Engineering department Accenture) on 17 Feb,2011 ; who layed emphasis on the "timeliness factor" in delivery of the project/task ,adoring challenges in work ,being well versed with the basics learnt in academics and its applications as well as keeping ourselves upto date with the current industry buzzwords as he discussed on mobile apps etc.

The conference began with Shankar Subramanium of EMC^2 mooting on the cloud computing and his company's success  on private cloud.Perfectly he embarked out the cloud concepts and underlined its base being  server vitualisation.

He began with concept of vitual machine then went on till v-data centers(cloud),their architecture  and advantages of cloud; major being  failure detection of one virtual machine prehand thereby consequently switching on to another virtual machine and thus huge databases of tera, peta or zeta which can be maintained on cloud and our application can run also on cloud; client could just log on to the server like in any website and can access database, run application and have access to all service hired and authorized to them.

Nation wide colleges participated and presented white papers on the emerging trends in information  techonology. It happened to be an inspiring and learning experience for we students. The credit of success of the conference goes to Vice Chancellor(Thomas C Mathew), HoD (Joy Paulose) , Director Of IT(Father Jossy) J.Saleema ma'm ,K. Balachandran and all the other faculties and my friends and seniors.
